About Me
My name is Emily Tartt, I am a senior at the University of South Carolina, studying Broadcast Journalism. Born and raised in Summerville, South Carolina I am a passionate storyteller and aspiring special projects and documentary producer. Over the past four years at USC, I have developed a strong interest in producing and reporting from creating podcasts in my power producing class, where I was able to produce my own five minute newscast. I recently had the opportunity to immerse myself in the fast-paced world of broadcast journalism through the Broadcast Journalism Capstone Practicum. This hands-on experience allowed me to produce newscasts, report on compelling stories, anchor, and leverage social media to engage audiences. Through this practicum, I not only sharpened my technical and storytelling skills but also gained valuable insight into the demands of working in a dynamic newsroom environment.

Beyond journalism, I have been involved in meaningful research through the CHIRP Lab, where I helped conduct surveys among African American men in South Carolina about their experiences with hair discrimination in workplaces and schools. This research played a crucial role in advocating for the CROWN Act in South Carolina, an effort to prevent race-based hair discrimination. My passion for storytelling extends beyond news coverage—I am committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and shedding light on important social issues.
When I’m not in the newsroom or working on research, I enjoy diving into fantasy fiction novels and playing soccer. With a deep love for impactful storytelling, I aim to produce documentaries and special projects that inform, inspire, and spark meaningful conversations.
